Afro-Contemporary will celebrate the intersection of contemporary dance and African dances as they are manifested in the Caribbean and the Americas. The class will be structured similarly to a modern dance class peppered with movement from Haiti, West Africa, Brazil, and the United States with respect to the cultural and historical significance that would further inform the movement. This class is highly rhythmic and relies heavily on imagery. Emphasis will be placed on the shifting of weight and musicality; as both dances of the African Diaspora and contemporary dance employ this attribute.
