Based in the Humphrey-Limón tradition, this modern dance class provides students with a natural approach to the principles of fall and recovery by emphasizing the expressive qualities of movement.

Each class begins with a warm-up focused on the breath as a tool for movement initiation and phrasing. Blending classical vocabulary with modern technique, students will learn to use their own impulses to work the body in relation to gravity. Each class builds in momentum and ends by using phrase work to propel through the space changing directions, levels, and timings. This class invites students to go beyond their physical centers and experience more freedom and daring in their dancing.
